A navigational marker for the ‘Surprize’, as it sailed east from Cape of Good Hope towards Port Jackson. A speck in the uninhabited sea except for when perhaps a few sealers or whalers laid up, it was perhaps only glimpsed at around the middle September 1794 and acknowledged as the halfway marker between Africa and Australia.
