5^th July 1796. Battered and undermanned, the ‘Sutil’ limps into harbour at Monterey. Muir lives for a fortnight as a guest of the Governor of Alto California. Given welcome hospitality by the Governor and his family he enjoys the intellectual company and waits for repairs to be carried out on the patrol boat.
